Bikers get advice to cut deaths

Motorcyclists in Thames Valley are being invited to a road safety event as figures show 715 bikers have been killed or hurt in the area since 2006.

Thames Valley Police motorcyclists will dispense safety tips at H's Cafe on the A4074 at Berinsfield, in Oxfordshire.
The event is part of the force's Safer Rider campaign.
Motorcyclists represent 1% of all road traffic on Thames Valley's roads, but account for nearly 20% of all road fatalities police said.

'Tragic waste'

Dan Campsall, communications manager for the Safer Roads Partnership, said: "Our research shows that 90% of motorcycle fatalities are men and that many of them leave behind long-term partners and young children.
"It is not just the crash itself that we are concerned about, it is the many lives that are devastated by losing a loved one."
Insp Bob Jarrett, who is leading the Safer Rider campaign for Thames Valley, said: "In the last four years, we have attended crashes in which nearly 100 bikers have lost their lives.
"We simply cannot stand by and watch this tragic waste of life.
