Διόρθωση στο όνομα. Όλοι το γράφουν λάθος...



Το Βουργαρέλι βρίσκεται στα Ανατολικά Τζουμέρκα (Αθαμανικά Όρη), σε υψόμετρο 800μ. Αποτελεί έδρα του Δήμου Αθαμανίας. .
Το όνομα του χωριού πρωτοεμφανίζεται σε κατάσταση των αρχείων της Βενετίας (5 Οκτωβρίου 1696), όπου αναφέρεται ως ένα από τα 41 χωριά του Τζουμέρκου και Ραδοβιζίου.
Η προέλευση του ονόματος δεν είναι βέβαιη. Εικάζεται ότι η ονομασία προέρχεται από το επώνυμο Βουργαρέλης, που ήταν υλοτόμος στην περιοχή, ή από Βούλγαρους υλοτόμους, που εγκαταστάθηκαν εδώ, λόγω των δασών και των ρεόντων υδάτων, για τη μεταφορά οικοδομήσιμης ξυλείας , στην Άρτα. Πολλοί συνδέουν το όνομα με τον ήχο του αναβρύζοντος ύδατος, καθώς η περιοχή έχει πολλές πηγές.
Η ιστορία του χωριού σχετίζεται με την ιστορία της ευρύτερης περιοχής της Αθαμανίας, καθώς αυτό υπήρξε ένα από τα κέντρα της.
